Drawing from life presents challenges that help me build skills of perception, spatial understanding, composition, dynamics—all the academic tools I’ve gained throughout my education—in concert with an exploration of mark making, materials, and my own visual vocabulary.

The process of constructing my abstractions gives me permission to experiment with materials and mark making without a known objective. Sometimes collaged materials offer a scaffolding for the development of an image, and other times the paintings begin with completely arbitrary applications of color. The painting is built up in many layers, fluctuating between chaos and destruction, and a responding attempt to create a balanced and unified image. The results are unexpected—discovered rather than created with intentionality.

Beginning in 2025, I’ve been experimenting with applying my images to accessories and home goods so that my work can be enjoyed as practical, functional, affordable artistic pieces for everyday living. Products include handbags, sport bags and duffels, totes, pillows, journals, cards, scarves, poochie bandanas, and clothing—all made to order. Contact me if you’d like something made just for you!
