Mural Painters of the Tri Valley

We are blessed here in the Tri Valley to have several wonderful Mural Artists. Below is a list of just a few of our Muralists along with some of their work both here and around the Bay Area. Feel free to reach out to them for your next mural project.

Thomasin Dewhurst - Thomasin was born in the United Kingdom and moved to South Africa as a young child. She received her B.A.F.A. (with distinction) from Rhodes University, and her M.A.F.A. (with distinction) in Painting and History of Art from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Her work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows in various locations world-wide, including the Manifest Gallery (Cincinnati, Ohio), the Everard Read Gallery (Johannesburg, South Africa), the Bankhead Theater Gallery and the Figurehead Gallery (Livermore, CA), Hodnett Fine Art Gallery (Vancouver, Canada), the Blackheath Gallery (London, United Kingdom) and others.

Thomasin has been the recipient of numerous scholarships, bursaries and awards for her art and teaching, including an Above & Beyond Award for outstanding contribution to Art, Music & Performing Arts Enrichment in Livermore school district, California, and she has been included in many publications. Thomasin's work is part of a number of private and public permanent collections including the Gauteng legislature in South Africa and Ericsson South Africa (with around 20 of her watercolors). Currently Thomasin works as an artist and art instructor in the San Francisco Bay Area.

John Osgood John is both a traditional 2D painter and Muralist whose work can be seen in many areas around the Bay Area and West Coast. John is a Danville-based painter and muralist whose work explores connection: to nature, to one another, and to the places and experiences that shape us.

Raised in the Pacific Northwest and now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Osgood creates vibrant paintings and murals that combine bold color, layered mark-making, birds, botanical forms, and abstract pattern. His work often uses humor, symbolism, and visual storytelling to examine resilience, reflection, family, and our shared relationship with the natural world.

Osgood holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State University with a minor in Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited at venues including 111 Minna Gallery, Mirus Gallery, Voss Gallery, Brian Marki Fine Art, Center on Contemporary Art, among others. His murals and commissioned work can be found throughout the West Coast, with clients including Aiden Hotels, Capital One, Microsoft, IBM, Uber, and New Amsterdam Vodka.

Swati Rastogi Swati Rastogi is a multi media artist. Her art is elegant, boldly colored and enhanced by fine details and embellishments. Her particular interest in Mandalas began with her sophisticated henna designs. She sees the mandala as a motif of completeness and integrity. Her art is a combination of both Fine Arts and Crafts. I have developed my own style which involves my study, culture, traditions, aesthetics, emotions and intellect. I am highly influenced by folk and tribal arts of India- motifs from these reflect consistently in my creations.

From the time I remember, Art has always been my passion, driving me to a formal education that included my Bachelors in Fine Arts and Masters in History of Arts. My connections with the indigenous artists of India and exposure to the international exhibitions and workshops has motivated me to paint further. Imbibing the social and cultural values, my works are recognized for their elegance and attention to detail. I work in mixed media. It’s ornamental sometimes. Besides making art for the walls, I paint a lot of art that is functional. I love patterns. I observe them in everyday things from my food to my clothing to my art making. Having spent time with tribal artists of central India and many other states, I have a deep connection with the indigenous arts of India as well as America. I have lived a very artful life on the East Coast prior to moving to the Bay Area in late 2019. My contributions to the art scene in Jersey City were recognized by one and all and can be evidenced by the fact that I was awarded a citation by the mayor himself. Some of my major works include painting a couple of murals at arguably one of the most prominent Indian chain restaurants in New Jersey, a restaurant in New York city, painting the streets of downtown Jersey City for one of the biggest LGBTQ Pride festivals for two consecutive years, painting four catch basins (in Jersey City) and a few public art projects in the Tri Valley CA.

Last year I was contacted by Arts Los Altos to do a temporary mural that will be a part of the community paint at the Los Altos Art and wine festival which I later finished up and displayed in downtown Los Altos. See the slideshow at right. Dimension- 8 feet by 8feet - Material- PVC sheet 6mm. Location- State St and Third st in downtown Los Altos For "The Interconnectedness of Life" mural in Los Altos, I chose a color palette that relates to the quaint charm of downtown with its tree lined streets, colorful storefronts, restaurants and brick buildings. The murals' bold outlines, enhanced by small mirrors, shimmer with light and reflection from the street.  The colorful mandala mural was painted in two identical sections. The Arts Los Altos booth at the festival allowed several visitors of all ages  to paint simultaneously, completing small and predesignated shapes. It was exciting to see how vibrant color emerged on the panels.
