This Hispanic Heritage Month, the Firehouse Arts Center is pleased to present the solo exhibition of California-based artist Chris Granillo, whose vibrant practice explores the intersections of nature, folklore, and everyday urban life. Featuring approximately fourteen pieces, this exhibition highlights Granillo’s signature use of bold, brilliant color and graphic composition to illuminate cultural memory and contemporary experience.

Born of Mexican descent, Granillo draws deeply from folkloric traditions, creating artworks that bridge the past and present. His paintings and prints depict plants, rituals, and scenes of daily life to question assumed dualities and examine our connection to history and the natural world. Through juxtapositions of built and natural environments and the interplay of shadow and light, he constructs a visual language that honors heritage while engaging with modern identity.

Granillo’s commitment to community-grounded public art is central to his practice. His depictions of flora and fauna stand confidently alongside the people and stories they represent, asserting belonging and cultural pride in shared public spaces. His murals, paintings, and relief prints can be found throughout California, across the United States, and internationally. This exhibition invites viewers to experience Granillo’s contemporary expressions of tradition, connection, and cultural narrative, an offering of visibility and celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month.
