Opening Reception: April 18, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM

Aligned Again is a dynamic group exhibition featuring six women artists whose distinct voices converge in a vivid array of expression. Together, they create a collective narrative that speaks to universal themes of connection, contrast and creativity.

From Valerie Corvin’s vibrant abstracts to Lisa Levine’s surreal digital landscapes, Aligned Again moves fluidly across a spectrum of style and vision. Kim Cardoso’s luminous encaustics engage in quiet dialogue with minimalist forms, while Anne Rabe’s photographs bridge tradition and modernity. Dee Tivenan’s emotive paintings resonate with the textured, mixed-media works of Dobee Snowber uniting abstraction and figuration in unexpected ways.

Aligned Again speaks to the power and the strength of artistic community and the invisible threads that connect us. It invites viewers to find harmony within contrast and to experience the many ways art can tell stories, stir emotions and capture the essence of shared humanity.

Featuring: Kim Cardoso, Valerie Corvin, Lisa Levine, Anne Rabe, Dee Tivenan, Dobee SnowberThe

Chiachen Wang is a figurative painter working primarily in oils. After careers in Interior Architecture and Marketing Communications, she rediscovered her love for art in 2018 and began refining her skills through online classes and workshops. Chiachen’s work has been recognized in international competitions, including the Portrait Society of America, the Richeson Annual Competition, and NOAPS, and exhibited in regional galleries, art centers, and museums.

Her artistic focus spans figurative art, still life, and floral compositions, capturing fleeting moments and emotional connections. Merging vitality and spirit with inner essence, Chiachen creates oil portraits of people and animals while exploring the textures of still life and floral works. Committed to broadening her horizons, she delves into new genres to deepen her inner dialogue. I first became enamored with denim jeans after attending an exhibit about the life and work of Levi Strauss at the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Previously I hadn’t given much thought to the ubiquitous jeans that I had been wearing all my life. Denim jeans as we know them today were created in 1873 with the introduction of the copper rivet to reinforce the pockets and seams on canvas work pants. California gold miners were in need of durable, long lasting pants and the Levi Strauss Company produced them from a strong cotton sail cloth originally from Nimes, France. The name denim is derived “from Nimes”. What I love about the fabric is how each garment takes on the individual shape of the wearer. Much like an old pair of boots or gloves that crease and fold over time, denim jeans start to resemble the bodies that inhabit them. The fabric is so unique, I try to explore every property it possesses. I start by disassembling the garments into all the individual parts, waistbands, inseams, and pockets then put them back together again in a new form. In this digital age, I derive great satisfaction by cutting the fabric by hand. Each pair of pants holds a personal story of the wearer which gets incorporated into my artwork along the way. I love the slow, meditative process of assembling my pieces layer by layer.

My works are a celebration of the subtle beauty that permeates our daily lives. I find inspiration everywhere, from the intricate patterns of a dried plant to the fleeting colors of a storm-filled sky and the fluid dance of light on water. This exhibition is a culmination of that ongoing observation, a collection of works that celebrate the overlooked details of our world. Through a diverse range of physical media from simple charcoal to the soft colors of pastels to the rich texture of oil paint, I strive to capture the inner beauty of my subjects. My works are rooted in foundational skills and techniques I've honed through years of practice and inspired by the timeless precision of the Old Masters. This body of work is an invitation to pause, look closer, and find the extraordinary within the ordinary.

Anna Blazhiyevska has a solo exhibit featuring her canvas paintings at the Alcosta Senior & Community Center Gallery from May 1-29.

As a native Ukrainian, I juxtapose the centuries-old European folk tradition of painting on wooden eggs with the practice of painting on canvas. By painting on an organic, curved surface instead of a flat canvas, my miniature 'eggscapes' represent the beauty of natural landscapes while echoing the Earth's curvature. I like working with wood because it’s a warm material that evokes a feeling of sunlight. Through my work, the traditions of the old world are placed side-by-side with a modern style of painting. In my canvas paintings, I combine living and inanimate nature. Exploring these opposite sides of life, I aim to reveal the magic in the complexity around us. Each painting becomes an experiment, allowing me to explore relationships between simple objects and their place in my world.

This exhibition brings together the voices of young artists from the Tri-Valley, ages 8–18, who use art as a way to share their stories, experiences, and perspectives. Many works also highlight the artists’ awareness of the world around them, addressing environmental concerns, gender issues, and the role of community in shaping who they are.

Through drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, these local children reveal how deeply they care about their surroundings and how thoughtful, curious, and creative the next generation can be. Their art not only captures the spirit of growing up in the Tri-Valley, but also offers a glimpse into the hopes, challenges, and imaginations of today’s youth.
