Folded sculpture

Goran Konjevod

49 of the 50 pieces made for the 2022 50-50 show at Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. Folded paper. For most of these, I first used encaustic paints to add color and then folded the resulting sheet.

I fold paper and metal to create sculptures. Most of my work is based on folding sequences of pleats that interact to create patterns and three-dimensional forms.

Pleats also allow for stretching and shaping of the folded sheet, thus turning paper into a more malleable material that can be manipulated with less regard to geometric constraints.

I have shown my work in galleries and museums since 2008, most frequently in the 50-50 show at Sanchez Art Center and the California Sculpture Slam in San Luis Obispo. In 2021 I was lucky to be one of the artists in the Asian Art Museum’s Pop-up show Folded: Compositions in Paper, the first origami-focused exhibition at the museum.

Origami model of Golden Gate Bridge by Goran Konjevod

Most of my work is abstract, but once in a while I do something different. This is a model of a suspension bridge I designed and folded in 2021 for the PCOC origami conference to be held in San Francisco.
