Durba is a contemporary abstract artist based in the Bay Area. Art has always been an important part of Durba’s life. It has helped in defining her expression, views, sensibilities and her experiences. Primarily self taught, she works with both Acrylics and Oils on canvas. Her paintings address life, nature, geometrical shapes, social issues, women’s rights, climate change through abstract expressionism. Bright vibrant colors and different textures are used to weave through her imagination and feelings to render beautiful landscapes, still life and vivid abstract art. Over time her art has gravitated towards an abstract rendition of life and nature. Her travels in India and around the world, the current social issues that are so plaguing this country and the world, are some of the ideas that she draws inspiration from! There is always something hidden, waiting to be discovered in her paintings!

Durba has been teaching art from her home studio to kids and adults for the past 10 years. She has volunteered extensively in elementary schools for 8 years, and chaired quite a few programs, including FAME (Fine Arts Mini Experience), imparting art education to the students. She was hired by the Parent-Teacher group at Mission San Jose Elementary school for 2020-2021 to supplement art education to students K-3, which paused in March due to the pandemic. She is an active member of NCWCA (Northern California Women’s Caucus of Art) in her contribution of art and volunteering.

Durba has a Masters in English Literature from Calcutta University in India. She has worked in the banking sector briefly from 1998-2000. She attended CSU East Bay in the early 2000, in the continuing education programs.
