Join us for our May 2018 meeting with Collagist
May 8, 2018
Tuesday Evening Meeting at 7:30pm
Alamo Women’s Club, 1401 Danville Blvd., Alamo, CA
Join us for an evening to welcome Collagist GERRI LUM.
Gerri’s art background started at a very young age when she first viewed the Dutch master Vermeer at the De Young Museum in the late 1940’s. His exquisite lace collars and the subtlety of the shimmering satins in the ladies gowns still to this day glows in her memory.
Gerri describes her work with Collage as allowing her the creative freedom to pursue a life long journey of tumbling interests spurred on by her insatiable curiosity. She describes it this way: “I really do not have a deep philosophic explanation of my art. I simply love what I do . . . Starting art at the age of 9, with clay from my back yard. Then marching forward with graphite and colored pencil, ink, charcoal, watercolors, oils and acrylics, Italian tile work, knitting, sewing, stitchery and clay and sculpture.”
Most of her work entails the natural side of our environment with natural themes in an abstract form. Her art mediums are papers of many types like tissue and rice paper, even exotic papers resourced from many sources which are archived and altered with paints. She rarely uses commercial printed paper. Her collages are not limited to paper, but use a variety of mediums including watercolors, acrylics, inks, etc. as well as tools like glues and brushes. And the final ingredient is: lots of patience.
At our meeting, Gerri will be demonstrating the amazing enhancement of such common materials of dumpster diving paper and the successful coloring techniques for tissue paper. She will share some tricks of the trade that she has developed over her decades of experimentation with a plethora of techniques which you may use to enhance your own art endeavors.
