Judy Rice Showing at Ryan Automotive in Livermore
My painting experiences have run the gamut from feeling the need to make a realistic representation, to starting the creative process by letting the paint flow dictate the subject, to a combination of structure and flow. I paint with watercolor and acrylics.
As far as style and subject my paintings are eclectic. My favorite subjects are flowers and landscapes; other subjects include local historical buildings, and I’ve been commissioned to paint family pets. My focus for this show was to create a calming, outdoor experience.
After a career in graphic design, I now spend more time pursuing my love of painting. I have a Commercial Art degree and studied Mass Communications at Cal State, Hayward. I’ve taken numerous college painting classes, and workshops with Lian Quan Zhen, Karen Frey, Carol Maddox, Oneida Stowe, and Peg Humphreys at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico.
I am also an author and illustrator. Projects I especially enjoyed were writing and illustrating three books for children: Randi’s Pesky Picnic (about insects from A to Z) and Angel the Beddy-bye Cat (both rhyming ABC stories), and The Counting Fair, a rhyming counting story. Another project involved illustrating a book called Nature's Wonders, Poems for Young People, written by Alan Kasparian.
Some of my paintings are in private collections in Redding, CA and Bremerton, WA.
Ryan Automotive's Art Exhibit is available for viewing Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
