Paying tribute to art and technology in the heart of Silicon Valley, early film and contemporary video art, Moving Silently is a festival of ideas. How does technology assist in giving birth to the new art forms? What is the connection between historical and contemporary moving images? Can video cameras, being as widely accessible as crayons, be the most democratic tool of art production of our time? Artists are invited to submit their B&W silent work to be included in the show dedicated entirely to video art. The show will provide an opportunity to engage the public with digital media and video as a contemporary art form in the unique historical context of Essaney Silent Film Museum, located on the original site of Essanay Studios – where Charlie Chaplin’s Tramp films were produced, and where silent films are on show weekly.
Selected works will be included in the exhibition reel for the duration of the show, as well as featured on ephemereye.com, a virtual video art gallery. Live audio performed by sound artists will also be featured on the opening night
